In depth
Verdict
The only course and distance winner in the race, Arlequin de Sou has been raised 6lbs for his Haydock win from Cassia Heights (who he had finished behind the time before so the form has a solid look). Tom Costalot is still well treated, it seems, off a mark of 118, up 6lbs for his Warwick win. Antony Evans, who rode him with great aplomb last season, is again back on board. He must run a big race. Mighty Strong was in the process of running a big race at Newbury last time when falling at the last fence. That was his second fall in succession, and he has also been hit with a 6lb rise from Newbury. He is certainly entitled to respect but this course can be unforgiving with mistakes. Imaginaire certainly comes into the reckoning over a trip that might suit him. He has some decent novice form to his name, including a win over two-and-a-half miles and can run well despite his 192-day absence. Roller Blade has struggled from his higher mark since winning at Hereford, although his Kempton run reads pretty well and his Wincanton effort was in a valuable and fairly competitive handicap. Newick Park has won from a pound-lower mark and is fairly lightly raced under Rules. Coastguard was in the process of running a big race at Newbury last time when falling. A repetition of that gives him chances. Mr Timbrology (has broken blood vessels) is running to a solid level of form while Irish import Merry Minstrel won on his only start in Britain but has had injury problems and could well need this. Canyoubatim is well out of the handicap. It's another interesting event. Tom Costalot, who did us a good turn at Warwick, is the TEAMtalk selection working on the principle that he will be followed until he gets beaten.
