Verdict

The booking of Jamie Codd has seen concerted support for Gordon Elliott’s Squouateur. He’s 0-9 over fences so far but has had a wind operation so there may still be some improvement forthcoming. Patrick Kelly’s runners at The Festival are also worth a second look and that’s the case with Mall Dini, a former Festival winner who has been lightly raced this season and is the mount of Patrick Mullins, who won Tuesday's National Hunt Chase. The blinkers are on today but he’s another still seeking a first victory over the larger obstacles. Pendra has had a similar break since finishing second in this last year. He races off the same mark and Derek O’Connor is again in the saddle so it would be no surprise to see him in the firing-line again. FINAL NUDGE has to go on the short-list as he’s already been placed in the Badger Ales and the Welsh Grand National this season. Barry O’Neill rode more winners in points in Ireland last year than both O’Connor and Codd and his mount will benefit from the likely strong pace. Missed Approach has been threatening to win a race like this for a while and has conditions in his favour so could easily go one better than when second in last year’s National Hunt Chase. Sugar Baron is another proven stayer and will get every assistance from the saddle. The hat-trick seeking Band Of Blood looks best of those in the bottom half of the handicap.
