Verdict

BRISTOL DE MAI hasn't had much racing since finishing third in this in 2018. He beat Native River in the Betfair at Haydock in November that year and has continued to run well at the highest level including back at Haydock last time. He should have the edge here though Santini, a winner over hurdles here and of a Grade 1 at Aintree, was just touched off by Topofthegame in the Grade 1 RSA here in March and is an obvious threat. Top Ville Ben won Wetherby's Rowland Meyrick in impressive fashion and hails from a yard in form as does Slate House, twice a winner over hurdles around here. The latter would probably have won his last four, including a Grade 3 handicap here in November, but for falling 2 out and had a bit in hand when landing the Kauto Star at Ascot last time.
