Verdict

An excellent contest full of intrigue and question marks. Frodon continues to apply himself with trademark vim and vigour but faces a number of classy up-and-coming types here, whilst this should finally inform as to whether or not last year's Grand National winner, Noble Yeats, is good enough to dine at the very top table. His latest success in the Many Clouds last time suggested that may well be the case. The jury is currently out on one of last term's leading novice performers in Ahoy Senor after rather disappointing efforts this term, and this should tell us if Dusart and Sounds Russian, both loaded with fencing potential, really can prove good enough at this elevated level. However, the form of PROTEKTORAT (NAP) sets a high standard for the aforementioned quintet to aim at and last season's Gold Cup third looked better than ever when easily landing the Betfair Chase on his reappearance. A repeat of that level really ought to be good enough.
