Verdict

This looks wide-open but Queen's Vase winner SANTIAGO has the best form and with the ground likely to ease further can make his stamina count. His stable companion Arthur's Kingdom, runner-up to surprise winner Pyledriver in the King Edward VII Stakes, would also be suited by easier conditions but the unbeaten Crossfirehurricane appears to act on any ground and was impressive in beating Gold Maze and the strong finishing Sherpa in a Group 3 over 1m2f here on 2000 Guineas day. Galileo Chrome beat King Of The Throne by a head in a maiden on the same card though perhaps the most eye-catching performance came in the classic where Fiscal Rules stayed on into fifth behind Siskin. It's difficult to imagine a maiden landing an Irish Derby but Jim Bolger's charge, beaten a head by Wichita on his debut, might just upset his more experienced rivals. Top-class fillies can win an Irish Derby as we saw with Salsabil and Balanchine but whether New York Girl is in that category is another matter.
