In depth
Verdict
Tifernati showed progressive form last term and could be of interest if fit for his reappearance but the William Haggas-trained gelding has paid the penalty for his success last term at the hands of the handicapper and a better bet looks to be Jeer, who is taken to give weight and a beating all round with Traprain rated the biggest danger. The selection is less exposed than most of these, has shown a respectable level of form in both starts this term and Ed Dunlop's gelding is taken to open his account in handicap-company today. Longspur looks the pick of Mick Easterby's two runners ahead of Ahlawy and is similarly lightly raced but would need to improve on his Nottingham effort to trouble the judge. Polish Power has been running well on the Polytrack of late and could be of interest back on turf if he can reproduce his sand form. Traprain was successful over hurdles at Wetherby when last seen and could be of interest back on the level but he may find the going too testing. The ground should be of no problem to Jeer though and he gets the vote to open his account for the season.
