In depth
Verdict
Howard Johnson enjoyed success on this card last year and he can pick up again with Ballybough Rasher, who caught the eye by staying on in defeat at Newbury three weeks ago. He can get the better of the unpredictable Omni Cosmo Touch on these revised terms. Others to consider include: The lightly weighted Count Fosco, who has done nothing wrong of late and deserves a crack at this grade of race. However, he does have a little to prove regarding the trip and is one to have slight reservations about. Junkanoo has to be on the short list, as the form of his last few starts is working out well. He has gone close off this sort of mark in the past and will be hard to keep out of the frame. Omni Cosmo Touch is something of a law unto himself, as he can make life hard by starting slowly. Still, he does stay well and, as he almost proved at Newbury, he is capable on his day when he puts his mind to it. Even so, we prefer the claims of Ballybough Rasher this time around as he almost certainly needed the outing when he last raced. He is now 7lb better off with his Sue Smith-trained old rival and, with race fitness now on his side, last year's winner of the Charlie Hall can land his connections another nice pay day if all goes well.
