    Verdict

A second mediocre division of this maiden where London Gold is the obvious one on form so far, but we will again side with a newcomer in ESUVIA. Most of the debutants seem unlikely to be up to winning this on debut due to concerns over trip, ground or not having the pedigree profile to do so. However, Esuvia is an exception to that. Bryan Smart's filly is by the mudloving Whipper, which is a good start, and she is a half-sister to Matuza, who was a multiple sprint winner from this age up to six. She is favourably drawn, and the yard are in decent form as the turf campaign comes to a close, so we will take a chance on her. London Gold proved that he handles some cut when runner-up on good to soft over this trip at Goodwood last month. It is hard to say if that was much of an improvement on his first outing and although his experience is respected, he is no good thing. Dandarrell has a decent pedigree in the context of this and may be capable of picking up some prize money, while Redden showed improvement for his debut, but has soft ground to contend with here, which is a negative. Olney Lass is not written off after a good effort in defeat with cut underfoot at Nottingham, while Classical Piece has a bit of ability and a better draw, though has to prove he handles the ground. The Gillie is perhaps the most interesting of the other newcomers, but may want quicker ground, and a chance is taken on Esuvia.
