In depth
Verdict
This could hardly be more competitive and our selection of Kharish will know he's been in a race if he can master the challenges of The Coires, Banknote and Raza Cab, who are just three that hold rock solid claims on what they have achieved up to date. Singhalse and Following Flow are others that hold place claims and are worth noting in the betting before the each-way thieves get involved in clipping in any fancy priced that might be on offer. Raza Cab, as the top weight, is obviously respected. However, there are too many likely improvers in the field for him to be confidently supported in his bid to concede weight all round. So others make more appeal. The Coires won well at Newmarket last month and can continue to pay his way as his career progresses. He is reported to need a little give in the ground though and has a bit to prove under the prevailing conditions. There has to be the suspicion that he will be frustratingly short of the mark. Banknote caught the eye when winning an ordinary maiden at Beverley when he was last seen out. He should have no trouble with the trip and could be the surprise package of the race. However, Kharish holds a valuable edge as the proven performer over a mile and, as he has left the impression that there is bags more improvement to come from him, a 5lb penalty does not look enough to anchor Kharish this afternoon.
