In depth

Verdict

The Grand Visir was soon left behind by STRADIVARIUS and last year’s winner Spanish Mission in the Lonsdale Cup at York. The Gosdens’ classy stayer may not quite be the same horse that beat Nayef Road by 10 lengths in last year’s Ascot Gold Cup but did win this in 2019 and would still be the one to beat if the rains don’t arrive in time for Trueshan to take his chance. Alan King’s Goodwood Cup winner probably won’t line up if soft isn’t mentioned anywhere in the going forecast so a watch on the weather is required. Rodrigo Diaz and the three-year-old Alerta Roja are the improvers in the field and the former has already won around here.
