In depth

It will be very interesting to see how Red Devil Boys, who has already won a bumper and a hurdle here, goes after an extended break. Smart Freddy is another returning from a lengthy absence but he has scope, as does Fayette County who may have found the trip too short when falling at Kempton. CLONDAW KAEMPFER won a valuable handicap over hurdles at Aintree in April and did nothing wrong on his reappearance behind a race-fit Foxcub at Bangor. He may have too much class for these if taking to the larger obstacles.

Clondaw Kaempfer (IRE) 5-1 (11-12) In touch, ridden and headway 3 out, chased winner next, kept on one pace, 2nd of 9, 7l behind Foxcub (10-11) at Bangor 2m 4f hcp hdl (2) sft in Nov.

Herecomestrouble 25-1 (11-1) Behind, detatched when blundered 7th, headway from 2 out, never a threat, 5th of 7, 36l behind Top Gamble (11-1) at Wetherby 2m nov chs (4) sft in Nov.

Red Devil Boys (IRE) 11-8fav (10-12) Tracked leaders on inside, challenged 3 out, led going well last, shaken up flat, comfortably, won at Doncaster 2m 3f nov hdl (4) sft in Dec '12 beating Wychwoods Brook (10-5) by 2 1/2l, 20 ran.

Smart Freddy 25-1 (11-6) Tracked leaders, led 3 out, ridden and headed 2 out, switched right before last, still every chance flat, held towards finish, 2nd of 8, 3/4l behind Seebright (11-12) at Fontwell 2m 4f hcp hdl 0-130 (3) gs in Nov '13.

Fayette County (IRE) 5-1 (11-0) Held up towards rear, pushed along and headway 3 out, one pace and disputing 3rd when fell 3 out, in a race won by Tango De Juilley (11-0) at Kempton 2m beg chs (4) sft in Nov, 5 ran.
