    Verdict

CHAIN OF EVENTS was disappointing on his second start but the Barry Hills runner should be capable of better and is taken to confirm his debut promise ahead of Golden Gates and Corres. This son of Nayef ran very well under similar conditions on debut when third to the highly promising Emerald Commander. It was disappointing then that he couldn't improve on his second start when well held here over a mile on much quicker ground, especially as the step up to a mile should've helped, but he's worth another chance to show himself a promising sort. He was once entered in the Derby and whilst those plans have had to be shelved he's not without ability and could be good enough. Corres has the benefit of a recent spin and has looked progressive in two starts to date. He ran in a good maiden at Lingfield last time and was outpaced before staying on to good effect, suggesting a faster pace would help. That's likely here and the Elsworth runner has claims if coping with the ground. Golden Gates is the other one with experience who makes appeal, having taken a good fourth on his debut at Pontefract. The ground was quick that day but he should cope with this softer surface and run a big race; the market will tell us more. Thingathong is a likely type on paper and hails from the emerging Tom Dascombe yard so must be taken seriously, especially if support arrives. She's related to winners at this trip and the yard have an enviable record with newcomers, so it'd be no surprise to see the filly prove better than Inlovingmemory whose debut second hasn't worked out all that well. Senate is another to make paper appeal but this colt showed little on debut last year, although he is bred to improve with age and better can be expected. Goodlukin Lucy is another newcomer to monitor in the betting for the yard that won last year's Brockelsby on this card, but as things stand Chain Of Events looks the call.
