In depth

Verdict

The four-year-old Jean Genie has finished second in both starts over fences in this country and shouldn’t be far away again but CHAMPAGNE NOIR made a winning start over the larger obstacles at Huntingdon and led for a long way when runner-up to the impressive Captain Blackpearl at Kempton subsequently so should take all the beating. Empire De Maulde won at Hexham in September but failed to build on that over this trip at Carlisle. The Triple Pillar, Enry Iggins and Black Buble may be capable of improvement over fences and look best of the rest.
