Verdict
With conditions to suit, Hogmaneigh can land the 'Dash' at the expense of Wyatt Earp, Caribbean Coral and Handsome Cross to name just a few. It looks as though Stuart Williams has aimed Hogmaneigh specifically at this event, and the recent rain will be sweet music to the ears of the Newmarket handler. Unlucky-in-running when sent off favourite for last year's Ayr Gold Cup, the four-year-old, who goes well on soft ground, will be all the better for a pipe-opener at York where he finished with a flourish behind Terentia and Corridor Creeper. He should at the very least turn the tables on the latter, and can gain his biggest success to date. Wyatt Earp lines up in form but might just be found wanting over the trip, while 2004 winner Caribbean Coral also has it to do with Corridor Creeper based on their Chester running. Dandy Nicholls has supplied three of the past five winners of this event, and has no less than four runners. On the evidence so far, it could well be last week's Ayr runner-up Handsome Cross that does best. Last year's Runner-up Bond City has his share of weight, and the ground is a worry for the likes of Green Manalishi and Loch Verdi, so all in all, Hogmaneigh is the percentage call.
