In depth

Verdict

Vanormix appreciated a drop in grade when handing out a convincing six-length defeat of more experienced rivals over course and distance late last month and is taken to follow up. Martin Pipe's charge had previously finished runner-up behind the well regarded Saintsaire at Newbury in December and the classy type should prove too strong for his rivals. Orangerie was a useful staying handicapper on the level and got off the mark over timber at Cheltenham in October. The Philip Hobbs-trained gelding has not progressed in the manner expected and may have to settle for minor honours on these terms. Toulouse looked a smart prospect when making a winning debut over hurdles at Taunton in December but has twice failed to match that level of form and was most disappointing last time out. Penge Point was never sighted on his first try over timber while Howrwenow made little impact on his initial start and returns from a near three-month absence.
