In depth

Verdict

Archangel Raphael has entries in major staying events later in the season so this small field and fast going may not suit the son of Montjeu on his reappearance. The fact that Joseph chooses him over the easy Navan maiden winner Outspoken suggests he's the stable pick though Donnacha was on board for the latter's victory and he also holds some big engagements. The Ballydoyle pair are up against EDELPOUR, whose recent victories have been on testing ground. There's no apparent reason why Dermot Weld's charge shouldn't handle this going and he should be good enough. Botany Bay made a successful handicap debut at Down Royal and a couple of Pattern race entries suggest better is expected so he's not out of this.
