In depth

Verdict

It's hard to get away from Pitful Tercah and he is preferred to Fondness and Petroupetrov. David Pipe's gelding is 15lbs higher than when winning at Fontwell and 22lbs higher than for his first success but he still looks up to the task. He showed little in two starts over fences but has been transformed by being stepped up in trip on his return to hurdling and has won his last two pretty cosily. Mick Fitzgerald is a positive booking for Brendan Powell and Fondness is only 3lbs higher than when scoring at Fontwell in August. Trip, ground and fitness are unlikely to be issues but she may not be good enough to get the better of the selection. Petroupetrov ran a career best last time and his breeding points to him staying this trip but he has yet to race on ground better than soft and may need more rain. Pitful Tercah has stronger claims and can complete his hat-trick.
