In depth

Verdict

Ed Dunlop's Saggiatore deserves to get her head in front having found one too good in each of her last five starts but she has gone up another 3lb for her latest effort when chasing home Broughtons Point so may have to settle for minor honours again. Any market support for Admirable Duque would be of interest as he does not seem to be too badly treated, while Calculating is seemingly better on the artificial surfaces and is far from certain to confirm Southwell form with ACT OF KALANISI, who gets the vote to go one better today. Mark Johnston's gelding was not disgraced back on turf at Newmarket last time and looks worth siding with over a trip that suits. Jeremy Gask's Royal Riviera looks to be plenty high enough in the weights for his debut in a handicap and a bigger threat is likely to come from Peter Makin's recent course winner, Mabuya, who has gone up 3lb for that win but is not certain to stay as far as this trip.
