Verdict
Burnt Copper, Pilgrims Progress, Mary's Baby, Titian Flame and Pequenita form our shortlist, with the vote going to the last-named. The selection is trained by the in-form Gary Moore and will be ridden by the champion Tony McCoy. Placed efforts on the Flat were followed by an 11-furlong success at Ayr on good to soft in October and, sure to have been well schooled, catches the eye. Titian Flame has some fair middle-distance placed efforts to her name and looks a likely contender. Burnt Copper has shown promise in two runs to date and this represents, overall, a drop in grade for him. Pilgrims Progress won a 12-furlong Killarney handicap on heavy in May and his Flat speed will be interesting here on his first run for Philip Hobbs. Watch the betting market for clues. Of the others, Foxtrotromeoyankee was placed over 10 furlongs on Lingfield's Polytrack surface in July, Lowe Go has shown the odd bit of form at up to 12 furlongs, as has the well-bred Raheel. Whist Drive showed some improvement on his final Flat run over 14 furlongs, while Lowe Go was placed over 12 furlongs in a modest event at Salisbury in July. Richard Phillips' Eastwell Violet is another to keep an eye on in the betting, while Mary's Baby hails from the Amanda Perrett stable. She has shown form at up to a mile on the Flat and, being out of a mare by the stamina influence Bustino, could be interesting. However, on this occasion, we'll opt for Pequenita.
