Verdict

At The Double is the pick in this weak affair, with Smilingvalentine, Barranco, Ilabon and Gotontheluckyone others in with a chance of sorts. It has been profitable to follow the Surrey stable of Peter Winkworth over the past month, and At The Double could be another winner here judged on his latest effort at Plumpton where he was only headed at the last. The better ground today will be in his favour and with Philip Hide, who knows this track backwards on board, he can go close. Smilngvalentine was not beaten far in a maiden hurdle at Ludlow last time and is another that will have no problems with either the ground or trip, while Barranco was a beaten favourite in the race won by old Graffiti Tongue at Folkestone. He never got going in the testing conditions and will hopefully give a better showing here. Martin Pipe won this 12 months ago, and if Ilabon is fully recovered from his recent exertions at Taunton where he was eventually pulled up after making the running in the race won by Nippy Des Mottes, he would have leading claims, but he is a risky proposition. Gotontheluckyone showed his best form when second at Taunton last time, but needs to improve again to figure, and for the winner we return to At The Double.
