Verdict

POTEMKIN looks set to take gold in the opener, with newcomers Maxwil and Tyrrells Wood the most interesting among the remainder. This is a race that won't take much winning and previous racecourse experience is a definite plus, so Potemkin has a leading chance. Alan King's gelding is rated around the 60 mark on the level, but sets the standard here after going close at Market Rasen last time. Trip and ground suit and he looks to have been well placed. Maxwil is interesting, given that trainer Gary Moore is in form and has a good strike rate at this track. He is rated in the 80s on the flat and while on that basis he is very much respected, he has yet to jump a hurdle in public. The same goes for Tyrrells Wood, who won over 12f on the flat at Brighton in the summer and stayed two miles on the level last time. This trip will surely be on the short side for him but with Tony McCoy booked anything can happen. Of the others Magpie would look a nice enough prospect to winter with, while there is probably more to come from Abfabfong as the ground gets slower, however for today we'll side with Potemkin.
