In depth

Verdict

This dropped slightly in grade last year from its previous guise and went to BECKWITH STAR, who is back for another crack with a 9lb higher mark to contend with. However, that shouldn't prove a problem as he won from 10lb higher over fences last month and can complete a double. Dermot Weld is represented by Defining Year, who has a tough task on his handicap debut after three unplaced efforts in maidens though he'll be tuned up for this. Baby Jake has had a couple of runs on the level after landing a Roscommon handicap hurdle from a 7lb lower mark while The Scourge is also having his first start in a handicap and will find this much tougher than the maiden he won at Kilbeggan. The latter's stablemate Utmost Zeal is another handicap first-timer but he could be well treated and Jack Kennedy's claim is a bonus. Cristy's Call finished tailed off at Bellewstown but was reported to be lame and is better judged on his victory at Downpatrick.
