      Verdict

      PADDINGTON took the step up in trip in his stride when adding the Eclipse at Sandown to earlier Group 1 victories in the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. He’s a colt out of the top drawer and is hard to oppose in this. Inspiral came up short in the Queen Anne on her reappearance but will be spot on today and can confirm Ascot running with Chindit while the French challenger Facteur Cheval ran a big race in a Group 1 at Longchamp and is preferred to the Summer Mile runner-up Aldaary. Charyn has plenty to find with the likely favourite.
