In depth

Verdict

CARDANO continued his good progress when landing a double with a victory at Ripon last week. A winner in soft going at Nottingham before that, he’s due to be raised 9lb in the future so today’s penalty may not be enough to anchor him in this. Edmond Dantes went close at Haydock on his handicap debut but has something to prove on today’s ground while Crimean Queen is a similar type racing in soft going for the first time having finished a close-up third at Chelmsford on her handicap bow. Chinese Alphabet may do better back over today’s shorter trip while Queen's Soldier was placed here on her penultimate start without threatening the winner.
