    Verdict

Double-figure draws are favoured over a mile at Goodwood and START RIGHT can take advantage of his by landing this fiercely competitive race ahead of L'Hirondelle, Truism and Kay Gee Bee. Luca Cumani's gelding is improving nicely and showed a fine attitude when scoring at Newmarket, in the process advertising his effectiveness over this trip. Kieren Fallon takes over in the plate and from his draw in 13 should be able to take up a handy position, so we're hopeful Start Right can defy a 4lb higher mark now taking on his elders for the first time. L'Hirondelle ran arguably his best race on the turf here and arrives on the back of a fine Kempton success. As a horse who is better on the all-weather he's effectively unpenalised and might be able to show versatility in running a big race. Truism is a consistent course winner who knows these undulations well and is therefore considered from stall 20. This is tougher than his recent outings but the gelding is unexposed and Ryan Moore retains the ride. Kay Gee Be remains fairly treated after a hard-fought Ascot success and ground conditions will favour him if rain stays away. William Jarvis has his runners in decent form and again he's landed a reasonable draw. John Fahy's 5lb claim helps ease the burden for Benandonner, who won off 94 last summer and is therefore well treated off 90 here, so he's another to consider alongside Mujood who may not look thrown-in but he's always a force at this venue. Huzzah disappointed at Ffos Las but drops to a nice mark and could go well at a price along with Mambo Spirit who should stay this trip on pedigree. William Knight won this in 2006 so Cape Rock is respected as are Mejd and course winner My Kingdom, but Start Right should continue to progress and gets our vote to score.
