Verdict

Shogun is joint-top rated here but has only won a maiden at the Curragh. He's been racing at Group 1 level since a close second in a Group 3 at Leopardstown in May and his form figures are misleading. Aidan O'Brien also runs The Major General and though he's been beaten in handicaps since landing a Listed race at Leopardstown he hasn't enjoyed the soft ground. Prize Money is the other joint-top ranked after his close second to subsequent Eclipse winner Hawkbill at Ascot and was probably feeling the very fast ground when running poorly at Newmarket. If the rain arrives in time he'd be an obvious contender. Platitude couldn't quite hold off Housesofparliament over an extra furlong at Newmarket but along with the lightly-raced Ulysses, who ran better than his finishing position suggests in the Derby, gives the Stoute camp a strong hand. QATARI HUNTER has won four handicaps, going up 28lb in the process. There are plenty of opportunities in Ireland so the fact that Jim Bolger sends him here for his pattern race debut speaks volumes and he's given the nod.
