In depth
Verdict
A trappy handicap to end the card at Goodwood, but Royal Bathwick is given a more realistic target to follow up her maiden win and may just be worth backing, while Desert Royalty and Karaoke are in good heart and Raheel is an outsider to note as well. After a fair effort on her debut at Bath, Royal Bathwick put up an eye-catching performance to get off the mark at Warwick, coming from a long way back to beat Queen Excalibur by a head. She was well out of her depth in Listed company on her only subsequent start, but Rod Millman's filly has a more realistic target here and a mark of 72 for her handicap debut does not look harsh. Desert Royalty took advantage of a fairly lenient mark to win on her handicap debut and seasonal reappearance at Windsor last time. Ed Dunlop's filly is seven pounds higher now but the extra furlong should suit her and she cannot be ruled out of the equation. Karaoke is more exposed than some of these, but won a fair handicap at Nottingham last month and was far from disgraced when second in a Classified Stakes at Bath last time, so can also come into the reckoning. Raheel is an interesting dark horse on his handicap debut. He finished eighth in a Kempton maiden that is working out quite well on his latest start, and the horse who finished a place ahead of him, Easter Parade, won a handicap on Bank Holiday Monday, so Raheel could run a big race here under Ryan Moore.
