Verdict
The classy Tillerman is the pick to beat the Jersey Stakes one-two Membership and Arakan, with last year's winner Nayyir also expected to be in the shake-up. Amanda Perret always likes to have a winner at this meeting just as her father did, and Tillerman has all the credentials to prevail. The son of In The Wings has surprisingly only visited his local course once, but showed that he acted on the track in landing last year's Group 2 Celebration Mile under Richard Hughes, his regular pilot. His latest victory in the Group 3 Michael Page International Silver Trophy Stakes at Ascot was hard earned as he did not get the pace that he needs, and he is sure to take the beating today before going back to Ascot for a possible tilt at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in September. Membership and Arakan dominated the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot but the winner found it tough dropping back in distance in the July Cup. Expect his true running here. Last year's winner Nayyir added the Victor Chandler Challenge Stakes to his haul at Newmarket, beating Godolphin's Firebreak easily and will be all the better for his pipe-opener at Newcastle. He is set to run a big race but may find Tillerman too strong at the finish.
