In depth

Verdict

In this opening race Godolphin bring newcomer Manahej to a racecourse for the first time but they may find John Gosden's KANSAI SPIRIT taking the prize with Love Pegasus also in the mix. Gosden's two-year-old improved from his opening run at Newmarket when he returned to HQ to finish fourth last month and is entitled to progress again. Furthermore the colt, who holds a Derby entry next season, steps back in class for his all-weather debut and should put his maiden days behind him. Mark Johnston's horses are running well at the moment and that could almost be reason enough to have a look at Love Pegagus. It's certain connections are hoping he has all the talent of the winged stallion from the Greek Mythology who he shares part of his name with and he did show some ability on his debut last time. Breeding suggests there is more to come but will be much more the finished article next season. Let the market be your guide as far as the Boy's in Blue's latest new starter. He's well related and bred to stay at least the mile so is definitely one to consider. Of the others Great Western could have claims too. Paul Cole's colt returns to the course after an improved performance when finishing eighth over a longer trip last time with the step down in trip and class helping him here.
