Verdict
Osolomio won in good style last time and looks worth supporting again here with Monolith and Balyan the other pair for the shortlist. The selection scored in decisive fashion at Thirsk last month and he gave the impression that day that there was plenty more to come. This step-up in trip will play to his strengths as will the fast ground and it will be a surprise to us if he does not make it back-to-back wins. Monolith returns to the level after a spell over hurdles and there is no doubt that on the pick of his flat form he is a contender. However, the claims of Osolomio look rock solid and it looks as though he will have to settle for a minor role today. Balyan plugged-on at Catterick last time without ever looking like getting competitive and it is now nearly three years since he has won a race which does temper confidence in him. Jim Goldie does well with his runners in this part of the world so if either of his pair get backed then it could pay to take the hint, but Osolomio could be a cut above these and he gets the confident vote.
