In depth
Verdict
Opal Noir can confirm the recent form with Yorkshire Blue and land the sprint handicap. Brut and No Grouse are others that can make this interesting. Eric Alston has a near 10% strike-rate with his runners at Hamilton and has struck with similar types to No Grouse, who is undoubtedly well handicapped these days. He will love the ground and can go well at a fair price. Brut, on the other hand, is now on a stiff mark after winning at Catterick last month. He likes to race with the pace but faces a stiff test under top weight. Yorkshire Blue is something of a course specialist and would be dangerous to rule out. However, he was over two lengths adrift of the selection when they met here a fortnight ago and, even on the revised terms, his style of running says he needs everything to fall into place for him. Therefore, we take Opal Noir as the logical choice while he is in such obvious good heart.
