In depth
Verdict
Mallard is on a roll at present and can win again, with Ben Hur, Rotuma and Indian Welcome in with a shout in the final race on the card. Mallard has become something of a Wolverhampton specialist of late, so it was a pleasant surprise to connections no doubt when he popped in at Epsom recently. That was over seven furlongs, and as he is reckoned to be much better over a mile, this race should suit him. Still well treated it is hard not to fancy James Given's five-year-old. Ben Hur has run into form lately, finally opening his account on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. Mark Brisbourne expects him to go well back on turf, but he may not have the legs of the selection. Nor will Rotuma who has had a string of seconds to his name and is not easy to win with. Indian Welcome used his stamina to good effect when coming good on Lingfield's Polytrack and with the blinkers on may be in the shake-up as well. All in all, Mallard looks the class-act and should be followed.
