Verdict
ALCAEUS is a typical Sir Mark Prescott project. Three unplaced juvenile runs have been followed by a major step-up in trip at three and victory is achieved in a modest northern handicap. He looked nothing special that day and will almost certainly go off at prohibitive odds but equally it would be no surprise to witness further improvement from now on. Corton Lad was consistent on the all-weather during the winter and not disgraced on his Newcastle reappearance but the main danger looks to be Niknad. She has no stamina issues and only went down narrowly when third of eight at Kempton latest. She looks sure to be in the shake-up.
