      Verdict

GERSHWIN (NAP) was raised 10lb for scoring at Leicester but very nearly defied the extra in a much better race at Ascot where he was caught in the dying strides. He looked to be travelling best throughout and, though up another 5lb, can gain compensation. Abdon, a debut winner at Newbury last August, was narrowly beaten by Hawkbill in a Listed contest at Newmarket in April but disappointed behind that winner in a Group 3 at Ascot which can't have been his form. Ode To Evening went up 6lb for landing a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket but almost followed up in the same grade at Goodwood so has to be a threat. Gurkha Friend has been in cracking form over a mile but has his first start over this trip.
