In depth

Verdict

CARDIGAN ISLAND ran out an ultimately easy winner at Southwell yesterday and Peter Bowen must be tempted to turn him out again quickly in this weak novices' handicap under a penalty. He gets the vote if he turns up as there isn't a lot of inspiration to be drawn from the opposition. Glebehall Bay looks to be the pick of Venetia Williams' pair but he hasn't raced since February, while Musical Wedge and Hill Forts Gloria are both jumping fences for the first time in public. Kaycee was beaten when falling at Plumpton earlier this month and Drom has done little to justify his current high rating.
