In depth
Verdict
A number of unexposed types on view and Laborec is the call ahead of Digger Jake and Port Erne. Howard Johnson has taken a couple of bumpers in recent weeks and this son of Oscar, who is likely to improve for racing, is likely to be forward enough in his work to do himself justice. Digger Jake is a son of Miner's Lamp and could literally be anything. The market will offer plenty of clues. A perusal through Port Erne's bloodlines tells us that Ferdy Murphy's representative is from the bloodlines of Shergar. His stable are certainly in good enough form at the moment. Buachahill on Eirne is related to a number of useful middle distance performers on the flat so cannot be discounted with confidence. Harps Counsel does have the edge of experience although he has not troubled the judge in two soft ground starts thus far. The breeding suggests that Boris The Blade may find this trip on the sharp side. The market should tell us plenty and in the absence of that information, Laborec receives our nomination in the nightcap.
