In depth

Verdict

Mark Pitman normally has a strong hand in this department and his Crafty Monkey, who is out of a Monksfield mare, may be good enough to make a winning debut. Bob Buckler's Aifung shaped quite well on her debut at Hereford, but then she was found out in a btter race at Worcester. She holds the edge in experience and will be difficult to keep out of the frame. Third place may go to Fire Ranger, who looked to catch a tartar in the shape of Sammy Samba at Newton Abbot. The winner has since gone on to win a couple of hurdle races, so there was no disgrace in finishing second to him.
