Verdict

A competitive heat where Peter Bowen might just be able to continue a good run of form with MAYOR OF KILCOCK, while Overrule, Mesbaah and Peaceful Means are among others with claims. Overrule will be competitive despite top weight here, after some good recent form on similar ground. However, the handicapper might just be asking a little too much of Brian Ellison's runner and we will take him on. Peaceful Means is in cracking form and has trip and ground to suit, but looks in the grip of the assessor, while Dark Energy will find this hat-trick bid tough from a mark of 110. Tabaran went well in defeat at Exeter last week, but is out of the handicap here and will have to perform even better, while the assessor asks Perth winner Mesbaah to begin handicapping off a mark of 109, and he can get involved. However, Mayor Of Kilcock gets the vote. Peter Bowen has the string in good nick and this lightly-raced gelding acts on fast ground and will perhaps appreciate this drop back in trip after pulling hard when scoring over 2m 4f at Aintree in the spring. We have to take fitness on trust, and we will side with him.
