In depth
Verdict
George Charlton has a good record in this race but it is hard to see either of his runners toppling any of BYGONES OF BRID, Washington Irving or Predictive, and of the trio we narrowly prefer Bygones Of Brid. Karen Mclintock's charge has to give weight away to most of rivals but this doughty front-runner can be relied on to un his race. He did well to finish second to a smart horse in Ranjobaie last time out, especially as the ground may have been quick enough, and now returned to a quagmire he may prove hard to peg back. Washington Irving was four lengths behind him when they clashed at Newcastle in January and has a good chance to gain revenge on 3lb better terms today, Predictive chases a hat-trick after easy wins at Uttoxeter but this is his first trip away from there, whilst Bishops Heir has been in great form and is highly-thought-of but this is a step up in grade and he is reluctantly passed over. Soft Spoken Guy has a bit to find with the principles, Bivouac was a good Southwell winner last week and cannot be overlooked returning to hurdles, whilst Mudawin is an interesting runner back over hurdles. He won the Ebor in 2006 and was also a winner on his latest flat start so he retains plenty of ability. An intriguing contest, abut narrow preference is for Bygones Of Brid.
