    In depth

IRONCLAD has won his last two at Beverley and Newmarket and is already proven on Polytrack so a hat-trick may be on the cards for Hugo Palmer’s colt. Laafy hasn’t done much wrong over this trip since winning over 1m2f at Leicester in the spring so rates a danger. Selino disappointed when joint favourite at Goodwood in June but would have claims on earlier form making his handicap debut. Zuba has shown his best form on Polytrack so makes more appeal than Fragrant Dawn and Desert Friend.

Ironclad 9-2 (9-2) Tracked leader, led entering final furlong, ridden and ran on, won at Newmarket 1m 2f hcp (3) gd in Jul beating Durrell (9-5) by 3/4l, 5 ran.

Laafy (USA) 5-2 (9-5) Tracked leading pair, pushed along over 2f out, weakened final furlong, 4th of 6, 4 3/4l behind Never Do Nothing (9-3) at Goodwood 1m 4f hcp (3) gd in Jun.

Desert Friend (IRE) 7-2 (9-6) Held up towards rear, headway over 1f out, never nearer, 5th of 9, 8 1/2l behind Distant Chimes (9-2) at Wolverhampton 1m 4f hcp (4) pol in Jul.

Selino 6-4jfav (9-0) Chased leaders, effort over 2f out, hung right over 1f out, soon beaten, 3rd of 5, 5 1/2l behind Hereby (8-9) at Goodwood 1m 3f mdn stks (5) sft in Jun.

Zuba 5-1 (9-3) Mid-division, headway over 3f out, went 2nd well over 1f out, soon switched left, slightly impeded entering final furlong, held by winner and lost 2nd towards finish, 3rd of 13, 3/4l behind Distant Chimes (9-12) at Lingfield 1m 4f hcp (5) pol in Jul.

Fragrant Dawn 9-1 (9-5) Led 9f out, ridden over 2f out, edged right and headed over 1f out, still every chance when short of room and rider dropped whip, no extra close home, 3rd of 6, 1 3/4l behind Starczewski (9-4) at Yarmouth 1m 3f mdn hcp (5) gf in Jul.
