Verdict

This is a contest short on quality but nevertheless competitive and with most in this lowly grade for a reason we find a little more to like about SALOON ahead of Barbirolli, while Amwell Brave could show up in the places at a bigger price. The pick is still a maiden after 11 starts but has been one of the more consistent in this field. The form from his last time out place looks solid enough for this grade and his mark looks about right. Barbirolli took a fast ground apprentice handicap over this trip last time out and has been raised just two pounds for that neck success. He'll have David Probert claiming three on his back, which negates that rise, but he has been beaten off similarly good terms recently. Amwell Brave is more than capable in putting in a good run on these terms and could reward each-way backers while Jim Best's Smoothly Does It is also weighted to be involved after a solid jumps campaign. A tough opener for punters to untangle where we've found the solution in Saloon.
