Verdict
A very competitive renewal which is sure to be run at a good pace as Frodon, Annsam and Bobhopeornohope are all confirmed front-runners. They could end up taking each other on which would set things up for a finisher. Cap Du Nord won this last year off an 8lb lower mark with Our Power third and Enrilo fourth. Christian Williams’ charge arrives off the back of a seventh chase victory at Ascot but will be carrying overweight despite a penalty. Recent course and distance winner Killer Kane faces a similar scenario but is by no means ruled out. We’ll take a chance that cheekpieces have the desired effect on FLEGMATIK as Dan Skelton’s eight-year-old was in good form around here at this time last year. He was also a close third on his reappearance at Ascot and is 3lb lower now. Clondaw Castle won this in 2021 and made a promising reappearance in a Grade 2 here last month but is in the veteran stage now and Saint Calvados is hard to predict.
