Verdict

Etain produced her first worthwhile form of the season last time and is selected in the hope that she can build on that here. All of her opponents can be given some sort of chance but Alfie Noakes and Pocketwood make most appeal. Walter Swinburn saddled the winner of this race last year and Etain has enough ability to win this if she can build on that run at Wolverhampton. Her sole success to date came on soft ground at Windsor over ten furlongs but she should be effective under these conditions. Alfie Noakes is 3lbs better off with Channel Crossing for a length and a half and also sports cheekpieces for the first time this afternoon. The combination may be enough to see him reverse the form and he should go well. He had previously finished some way behind Pocketwood on soft ground at Newbury but will appreciate today's quicker ground. Pocketwood's rating is nearing the ceiling of his ability but he should give his running again providing that conditions aren't riding too fast. Monfils Monfils has been in fair form of late but may just lack the turn of foot required to take this prize and we prefer the claims of Etain.
