In depth

Verdict

Le Toreador is capable of popping up at this level on his day and nearly did so at Goodwood in July. Last month's Newmarket winner Last Sovereign never really threatened off today's mark at Ascot last time but didn't fare badly and the likes of Ajjaadd, Silvanus and Seeking Magic all look high enough in the weights at present. Bathwick Bear has slipped down the handicap and produced a better effort last time but SWISS CROSS is back on a winning mark now and will find this easier than his latest third to Ballista in a conditions race over C&D. Phil McEntee's charge gets the nod.
