In depth

Verdict

Tommy Stack has won this twice in the past three years so August Belmont should be respected in what is a disappointing turnout. Palm Ridge showed a little promise in both starts last year but has no fancy entries and has a long absence to overcome. Brazilian Beauty started odds-on at Tramore last time after a very close third behind Bellini Bliss over a mile at Gowran but found the 1m4f much too far and she will be much better suited by today's distance. She looks sure to get involved though PURPLE LAND gets a quick opportunity to put a disastrous run at Leopardstown behind him. Jim Bolger's colt was badly impeded at the start of that Group 3 event and virtually pulled up but he had shown plenty of promise previously and can gain his first victory.
