In depth

Verdict

This looks the ideal race for the classy bumper and hurdler QUEL ESPRIT to make his debut over fences. Willie Mullins' charge was strongly fancied for both the Neptune Investment Novices' Hurdle and the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival but fell in the former and didn't appear to last out the three miles of the latter two days later. Torpichen, another making his chasing bow, can make his mark over the bigger obstacles as he was a useful hurdler for David Pipe and landed a Listed contest for Edward O'Grady at Naas in December. Yet another having his first start over fences, Le Reveur, will have fitness on his side as he scored over timber at Clonmel last month but those with experience in this sphere will need to do much better than they have shown to date against potentially useful opposition.
