In depth

Verdict

Now that Follow The Flag has broken his duck he looks the one to be on for a follow-up here, while the are not many that we can rule out. The selection dropped back to 6f to score here last time, his first win in 13 attempts. He has gone up 4lb for a narrow margin win over Crimson Fern, but the runner up has come out and won twice since then, so the form looks good in context and the return to 7f will be in his favour. Convivial Spirit is now 2lb below when winning a similar c&d contest last March and was not far away last time out, so he could prove a serious danger. Emma Jean Lad enjoys this surface and has a couple of recent Kempton wins to his name, and there were excuses last time over a mile so he is not ruled out. Copper King is well handicapped on his turf form and acts over the trip so he could go close, while Imperium was just held last time and from 1lb higher he should be thereabouts. Not an easy opener to pin down but Follow The Flag gets the nod.
