In depth

Verdict

Zaham gets the vote over Emerald Wilderness, with Duty Free and Witchingham taken to chase him home. Lingfield's eight-race card gets under way with division one of a mile maiden, and this should present a good opportunity to Zaham who was well fancied on his debut here last month. Mark Johnston's colt shaped well in chasing home the other market leader Barshiba that day, and the form has already been franked, with the third Surrey Spinner going on to open his account earlier this week. With normal improvement, the son of Silver Hawk should prove hard to beat. Emerald Wilderness is more experienced, and it is hoped that this step up in trip will help his cause. Mick Channon's charge became unbalanced when pressure was applied last time though, and has a much wider draw than the selection to cope with. Duty Free is very well bred but did not show much in two starts on Turf at Bath last year, and is best watched perhaps today, while of the remainder, Witchingham is worth a mention as he drops back in trip. Zaham has more potential though, and is taken to score before going on to better things.
