      Verdict

      SPARTIC was caught close home when attempting to make all over C&D earlier this month. Reginald Claude proved too good on that occasion but a line through the latter gives him the beating of recent Kempton runner-up Dixie Gwalia and Alan McCabe's charge gets the nod. Brandywell Boy finished ahead of Steel City Boy when a close-up fifth here last week and Baby Dottie had Chjimes three lengths behind when third over C&D last month. Pat Phelan's mare looks a real threat dropped in class today.
