      Verdict

Henry Cecil has his team in good form so Hallingdal Blue has to be respected but she was well beaten on her debut at Great Leighs in December and the daughter of Halling looks best watched in a race taken to go to AKMAL, who is preferred to Talimos. Ralph Beckett's gelding ran promisingly on his debut at Salisbury earlier this month when chasing home Clowance House and he should do better still on the slightly easier ground today. Willie Muir's Silvador stepped up on his debut outing when a promising third at Leicester when last seen in October and he has to be considered on his reappearance. Tuppenny Piece was beaten some way in both starts last term but Walter Swinburn has his string in good form so she cannot be discounted, while Straight Laced needs to improve dramatically on his debut outing to trouble the judge. The vote then goes to John Dunlop's Akmal, who showed little sign of ability in three starts as a juvenile but he has improved for being stepped up in trip this term and a reproduction on his efforts when placed at Leicester and Doncaster may well suffice in this company.
